Second Day and a Dead Engine: CFMOTO Thunder Racing Team Saved by Mechanics

ree

On Saturday, the second day of the Fenix rally, both CFMOTO Thunder Racing Team riders started in high spirits, expecting a fast and smooth racing day ahead. Unfortunately, halfway through the stage, things took a completely different turn, and one of the quads had to be towed back to the bivouac by a car.

“Everything started quite well. I really enjoyed the first kilometers of the stage, caught up with Antanas, and we continued riding together. In the second half of the stage, while going full speed, the engine suddenly died. I pulled over and we started looking for the problem. First, we checked the belt, but it looked like new, and the engine just wouldn’t start. Antanas towed me for 15 kilometers to the road so the media car could tow me back to the bivouac,” said Gaetan Martinez, adding that the three-hour tow back to camp felt very long and exhausting.

The rider was relieved that the breakdown didn’t happen in the dunes, as that would have meant being stuck there until late at night. After inspecting the engine, the team’s mechanics suspect that low-quality fuel might have caused the issue. Before Sunday’s start, they plan to replace the engine with a new one so both team members can continue racing.

“The day was supposed to be short but turned out very long. Unexpected things happened — I had to help my teammate, then the navigation stopped working… It became quite a tough day, but I’m happy we both made it to the finish. Both quads need some attention, I’m tired, but overall, the mood is good,” said Antanas Kanopkinas upon reaching the bivouac, adding that they still need to sort out the organizers’ navigation equipment to fully enjoy the ride.
