The seven-day cross-country rally challenge in Tunisia is nearing its end – today, the riders returned to the city of Monastir, where on Thursday, after completing the final stage, they’ll cross the ceremonial finish arch. On the sixth day of racing, both CFMOTO Thunder Racing Team riders successfully covered nearly 450 kilometers, 167 of which were timed stages.
“Another fast day is done. I caught up with a teammate who started ahead of me quite quickly and spent about a hundred kilometers riding in the dust. Then he made a small mistake, which allowed me to move ahead and catch a few more competitors. In the second part of the stage, I thought I’d fight for position, but I hit a big hole and my roadbook screen flew off, so I had to stop and fix it, losing all my advantage,” said Antanas Kanopkinas, adding that even such situations are valuable experiences – and this rally has been full of them.
Despite the mechanical damage to the roadbook screen, both riders had no issues with its functioning today and were finally able to ride at their own race pace instead of trying to guess the right direction.
“Nothing too special about today – fast straights, few navigation challenges. The stage itself wasn’t particularly interesting, but even such days are part of this rally. Everything went smoothly, and the roadbook worked flawlessly. Now it’s time to rest and prepare for the final stage,” said Gaetan Martinez after reaching the bivouac.
Tomorrow, competitors will tackle a loop stage – starting and finishing in the same city – with more than 400 kilometers planned in total.
