Today, competitors in the Dinaric Rally in Croatia had to cover 288 kilometers. The CFMOTO Thunder Racing Team riders noted that, although the organizers had promised tricky navigation, it was fairly easy. Still, the tracks were far from easy, and according to the riders, many participants are likely to receive time penalties.
“It was a fun day – the tracks were fast and dangerous, and those are my favorite. Riding went really well, though of course I didn’t avoid the occasional mistake or distraction, as the days here are long. But overall, everything is very good,” said Antanas Kanopkinas at the finish. He added that the most worrying moment was when his quad briefly broke down, only to recover in a moment and keep going.
According to preliminary results, Kanopkinas placed third among the quad riders today. His teammate, Adomas Gančierius, finished fourth, spending just one minute more on the stage.
“We expected tough navigation, but there really weren’t any big navigation challenges. Only the distance markers didn’t match – that caught me out. In one section, the roadbook and GPS differed by about 500 meters, so I had to turn back and look for the correct route, even though I was riding in the right direction. That’s when other riders caught up with me.
Also, there were a lot of restricted speed zones on the course – I expect many competitors will get time penalties for violations,” explained Gančierius.
He also said the entire special stage unfolded in mountainous terrain with spectacular scenery. Despite the tough track conditions, the quad suffered no damage – the mechanics will only need to change the tires and carry out routine maintenance. Also, to determine the cause of A. Kanopkinas’ quad malfunction.
