The first sporting day of the Rallye du Maroc was quite different from the smooth and easy prologue. Due to heavy rains on Sunday and disrupted logistics of the rally caravan, Monday's stage was shortened - the participants had to cover 200 kilometers of liaisons and a 180 km special stage. After reaching the finish line, Antanas Kanopkinas was happy about the shortened distance - he had to fight with technical problems from the first kilometers of the day.
"Very difficult day - many technical problems. I started the day without power steering. In order to understand what this means, I suggest to those who have a quad bike, pull out the fuse responsible for this system and try to drive a short course somewhere in a gravel pit. That alone took a lot of strength and energy," said the CFMOTO Thunder Racing Team pilot after returning to the bivouac.
In line with not working power steering, the navigation system stopped working later. Then the athlete got acquainted with a never-before-seen malfunction - a non-functioning lambda sensor. This part is responsible for measuring the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas and is an important element for the smooth operation of the engine.
"The day was long and difficult, it required a lot of energy. I'm glad that it was shorter than it was planned, but at the same time it's a pity that I lost a lot of precious time for my rivals", said A. Kanopkinas and hinted that there are four more days of racing, so he certainly doesn't promise to give up.
On Tuesday, the athletes will have to overcome five hundred kilometers, which, according to the organizers, will consist mainly of stones, soil and sand.
